MapInfluenCE analyst Ivana Karásková commented for Radio Free Europe on the reception Chinese leader Xi Jinping found as he chaired the 17+1 meeting for the first time, with many national governments opting to send lower level representatives to (virtually) greet him.

“On the China issue, there is a split in the European Union between old member states and new member states …In 17+1 you have a number of U.S. allies that are more receptive to American goals.”
