MapInfluenCE featured prominently in a paper from the OSCE Network of Think Tanks and Academic Institutions entitled, “China’s Belt and Road Initiative: Implications for the OSCE”.

Not only was research conducted by MapInfluenCE founder Ivana Karásková, namely “Empty Shell No More: China’s Growing Footprint in Central and Eastern Europe”, cited as a major contributor to compiled information on BRI investments, but the more recent MapInfluenCE publication “China’s Sticks and Carrots in Central Europe: The Logic and Power of Chinese Influence” was noted for its more qualitative contributions.

“China therefore remains concerned about its image and has sought to influence public perceptions through “media cooperation in the form of supplements [and] content sharing agreements” (Bachulska et al. 2020). As noted earlier, this is particularly the case in Serbia, which is the key target state for BRI activities in the subregion and where success is particularly important in part because of its demonstration effect.”
