At the occasion of the publication of a new MapInfluenCE study authored by Veronika Blablová, MapInfluenCE project organized an expert discussion in Prague focused on China’s propaganda on Twitter and radio. The study China’s Twiplomacy in Europe in the Shadow of the Russian Invasion of Ukraine analyzes the activity of Twitter accounts of China’s embassies in European countries during the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The paper thus contributes to the wider debate on China’s behavior on Twitter as it addresses previously unanswered questions regarding the coordination of the embassy accounts.
MapInfluenCE founder and leader Ivana Karásková opened the event with a presentation of the findings of her new research for Central European Digital Media Observatory (CEDMO) examining China Radio International’s operations in the Czech Republic as an illustrative example of China’s influence operations. In her presentation, she focused on the case of two commercial radios that for more than three years secretly broadcasted propaganda in cooperation with China Radio International (CRI).
The subsequent discussion was moderated by Filip Nerad, Head of Foreign News Desk and EU Analyst at Czech Radio. The debate was attended by representatives from Czech NGOs, Czech ministries, diplomats and journalists.
