A new policy paper published by the Central European Institute for Asian Studies (CEIAS) in cooperation with Association for International Affairs (AMO) looks at the often neglected local-level relations with China.

The first of kind comprehensive research on the topic is based on a comprehensive study of 96 sub-national entities in Slovakia and 241 in the Czech Republic. It looks at the main patterns of cooperation, the relationship between local cooperation and the development of ties on the government level, the role of political parties and business interests as well as the importance of political issues over Taiwan and Tibet in the cooperation. The study also presents two case studies of Martin and Prague and their ties to Chinese partners.
